Dhaka, March 29, (V7N) — The Padma Bridge has reported a record-breaking toll collection of Tk 4.25 crore on Friday, as 39,637 vehicles crossed the bridge ahead of Eid celebrations. The surge in traffic prompted authorities to open an additional temporary toll booth at the Mawa end to streamline vehicle movement and reduce congestion.
Among the total vehicles, nearly 10,000 motorcycles played a significant role in boosting toll revenues. Nine lanes were operational at the toll plaza, including two lanes dedicated solely to motorcycles. Early morning travelers faced brief congestion, but traffic flow improved throughout the day.
"The longer holiday period has helped us manage traffic efficiently," said Altaf Hossain, Director of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority.
Meanwhile, at the Jamuna Bridge Toll Plaza, authorities reported a toll collection of Tk 3.5 crore in just 24 hours, further reflecting the massive pre-Eid exodus.
Chief Engineer of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, Kazi Ferdous, emphasized the coordinated efforts undertaken to facilitate seamless travel. “Travelers are leaving at different times instead of all at once, which has helped in controlling congestion,” he noted.
Law enforcement agencies, including police and highway patrol teams, remain active to ensure safety and maintain order during the mass holiday migration.
With Eid travel peaking, authorities continue to monitor traffic conditions, ensuring an efficient and hassle-free journey for homebound passengers.
