CHATTOGRAM, Apr 26 (V7N) - Health Advisor Nur Jahan Begum today inspected the proposed site for the construction of a 500-bed general hospital in Patiya Upazila of the district.

This marks the adviser's second visit to Patiya to identify a suitable location for the planned public health facility, aiming to expedite both the pre-construction and construction phases.

Nur Jahan Begum, accompanied by high-ranking officials from the health ministry and the district administration, examined the Saidair area of Ziri Union under the upazila this morning.

Government officials stated that the interim government intends to build a 500-bed hospital in Patiya, a central location in the Chattogram South region. This initiative aims to alleviate the suffering of local residents and reduce their reliance on Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for healthcare services.

CMCH, the sole public referral hospital in Chattogram and three other hill districts with a capacity of 2,200 beds, currently serves an average of 3,300 patients daily.

Recognizing the increasing pressure on CMCH and the hardships faced by patients, the government has formulated a plan to construct an additional 500-bed hospital in South Chattogram to enhance overall healthcare facilities.

Sharing the government's commitment to improving healthcare services for the general public, Nur Jahan Begum expressed optimism that a public sector hospital at this location could significantly benefit the people of the extensive Chattogram South region, as well as Bandarban and Cox's Bazar districts.

Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Dr. Md. Sayedur Rahman, Director of Health Services, Chattogram Division Dr. Ang Sui Pru Marma, District Civil Surgeon Dr. Jahangir Alam, Chairman of KDS Group Khalilur Rahman, Chairman of Mir Group Abdus Salam, Karnaphuli Upazila Nirbahi Officer (acting) Roya Tripura, and Karnaphuli Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Mosammat Zebunnesa were among those who accompanied the adviser.

Previously, on March 16th, Advisor Nurjahan Begum inspected another potential hospital site in the Harinkhain area of Kusumpura Union, also within Patiya Upazila.
