Kishoreganj, Aug 30 (V7N) – The donation box at the Pagla Mosque has broken all previous records with its enormous collection, marking a historic milestone. Under the supervision of Mohammad Ershadul Ahmed, the Additional District Magistrate of Kishoreganj and the chairman of the donation box opening committee, the mosque’s donation boxes were opened on Saturday. Present at the event were the Deputy Commissioner of the district, Fouzia Khan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mizabe Rahmat, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Hasan Chowdhury, and other administrative officials.
The donation boxes were opened at 7 a.m., and the contents were transferred into 32 sacks. After a full day of counting, the total amount was finalized at 8 p.m. This time, two additional donation boxes had to be added due to the overwhelming overflow of donations. The total amount collected has shattered all previous records in the history of the mosque.
Apart from cash, the donation boxes also contained a large amount of foreign currency, gold and silver ornaments, and diamond jewelry. The total weight of the ornaments exceeded three kilograms, according to sources related to the mosque. It was the highest-ever amount collected from the mosque, marking a significant increase in the donations received.
The Pagla Mosque usually opens its donation boxes every three months, but this time, they were opened after four months and 18 days. In the last collection on April 12, 28 sacks of money were counted, totaling Tk 9,17,80,687, along with significant amounts of foreign currency and gold ornaments.
Local beliefs hold that donating at Pagla Mosque fulfills one's wishes, which is why people continue to contribute generously. As a result, curiosity always surrounds the amount of money collected when the donation boxes are opened, and every counting session generates widespread public interest.
After counting the donations, District Commissioner Fouzia Khan shared with Voice Seven that after various donations and contributions were deducted, the total amount deposited in the mosque's bank account had crossed Tk 100 crore. The mosque also receives regular offerings in the form of Quran copies, candles, livestock, fruits, and other items as part of vows.
As the donation boxes were opened, a large crowd gathered around the mosque, eager to witness the counting process. The entire operation was carried out under strict security, coordinated by the police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and Ansar forces.
