Meherpur, Sept 19 (V7N) – Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar, head of the Election System Reform Commission, said the two reform commissions have proposed a lower house based on direct seats and an upper house using a proportional representation (PR) system.

He made the remarks on Friday morning at a view-exchange meeting organized by Citizens for Good Governance (SUJON) in Gangni Upazila, Meherpur.

Dr. Majumdar acknowledged that both systems have their strengths and weaknesses and are not free from errors. “However, both are necessary. I hope a fair and impartial election will be held through consensus,” he said.

He also noted that the upcoming election could pave the way for the establishment of an effective democratic system in the country.
