Tomorrow, the nation will celebrate, the Hindu Holi festival of colors, with great excitement and appropriate religious passion.
In addition to being a joyful day for people to gather together, play, laugh, forget, and forgive, the holiday also represents the triumph of good over evil and is observed as a way to express thanks for a bountiful harvest. Another name for the celebration is Dol Purnima, or "full moon day."
In observance of the event, worshippers would visit shrines and temples and present offerings (abir) of colors to the idols of the goddess Sri Radhika and the god Sri Krishna.
Abir Khela, a major component of the celebration, involves participants flinging abir, a pink-colored powder with a scent, and other colorful powders at one another, coating each other in color to add to the exuberance of the event.
On the occasion of Dol Purnima, the Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee has arranged for religious music honoring Lord Krishna as well as other rites, such as worshipping Lord Krishna, to start early at Dhakeshwari National Temple.
At the feet of the idols of Radha Krishna and Chaitanyadeb, Abir shall be presented.
Also, devotees will present the Abir to the gods and goddesses.
In addition, the event will be observed at other temples around the nation, including Dhaka, the capital.
When the festival approaches, hundreds of young people from all backgrounds—religions, castes, and creeds—decorate the area around Dhakeshwari Temple and the campus of Dhaka University with vibrant colors.
Students will commemorate the occasion by painting the faces of other devotees and snapping photos at Jagannath Hall and Dhakeshwari Temple.
The event was instituted to commemorate an auspicious day in the past when Abir, Sri Radhika, and their companions played games in Brindaban with Sri Krishna.
Many Indian states, including West Bengal, Tamilnadu (Madras), Orissa, and the North, West, and Middle regions, celebrate the holiday called Dol Jatra.
Nepal, a neighbor, too celebrates Holi, also known as Dol Jatra.
