Dhaka, Aug 26 (V7N) – BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has confirmed that the next national elections will be held in early February 2026, stressing that there is no dispute on this matter among the Election Commission, the government, or the BNP.

Speaking to reporters at his Gulshan residence on Tuesday, Salahuddin said, “If any party does not want to join the elections, it is their personal decision. Those who boycott will only make themselves irrelevant. I hope no one takes that risk.”

On the July Charter, he noted that only proposals that can withstand legal scrutiny will be accepted, adding that “ultimately, reforms will be implemented through parliament.”

Addressing concerns over the interim government, Salahuddin said, “The government is operating legally, and we do not want to create any complications in this continuity. Whoever is in power, trials must continue.”

On potential alliances, he revealed that BNP is in talks with several Islamic parties but ruled out any possibility of an alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami. He further emphasized that candidates will be chosen based on merit and their contribution to the anti-fascist movement.
