Dhaka, Jan 11 (V7N) —Mahmudur Rahman Manna, president of Nagorik Oikya, has criticized the interim government's decision to increase VAT on goods during crises, stating that it demonstrates a lack of understanding of economics and the struggles of working people.
He said: "Those who increase Vat on goods during crises may understand definitions, but they don’t grasp economics or the struggles of working people."
He shared this view on Saturday while attending the first national council of the Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.
Manna added: "If we all fulfil our responsibilities with competence, a new Bangladesh can be built. While the interim government holds the country’s responsibility, they lack experience. Hence, they need our assistance to build the nation."
Calling for urgent reforms, the Nagorik Oikya president said: "We also want reforms, but conduct elections swiftly after implementing them. Otherwise, the country will face even greater crises."
