Dhaka, Jan 17 (V7N) — The fifth national youth convention of the Islamic Youth Movement of Bangladesh commenced today at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan, despite the cancellation of the event's allocation by the Public Works Department and a lack of police clearance. The convention began after Friday prayers and is being attended by the Ameer of the Islamic Movement, Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim Pir Saheb Charmonai, along with leaders of various youth organizations.
Leaders and activists from across the country arrived at Suhrawardy Udyan early in the morning to participate in the convention.
The Public Works Department had initially granted permission to hold the convention at Suhrawardy Udyan, subject to police clearance. However, the allocation was revoked on Thursday through a letter signed by Mohammad Monirul Islam, Superintending Engineer of the department.
Monirul Islam stated, "Since they did not obtain police clearance, the permission was cancelled as per condition number 13 of the allotment letter."
Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner Md. Masud Alam explained, "We asked them to postpone the event due to the medical admission test scheduled for Friday morning. They did not follow up with us afterward."
Despite these restrictions, the Islamic Youth Movement announced its decision to proceed with the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan. The gathering has drawn significant attention as participants defied the administrative hurdles to convene at the historic site.
The convention, featuring speeches by prominent leaders, focuses on mobilizing youth participation and promoting the organization's objectives. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure law and order.
