Dhaka, Feb 04 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has put forward a three-tier proposal—short, medium, and long-term—for reforms in the country's health sector.

Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, presented the party's proposals at a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson’s Office in Gulshan on Tuesday afternoon.

Highlighting the interim government's initiative to establish at least ten reform commissions for state restructuring, he stated that BNP, as a responsible political entity, has outlined its vision for health sector reforms to contribute to national progress.

Dr. Mosharraf emphasized the urgent need for reforms, holding the previous government accountable for corruption and mismanagement that, he claimed, led to stagnation in the healthcare system. He stressed that improving healthcare services is essential to reducing the trend of patients seeking treatment abroad.

"The previous government prioritized personal gain over the expansion of the pharmaceutical sector. The privileged few exploited every sector, ultimately leading to their downfall," he alleged.

Welcoming the interim government’s efforts in health sector reforms, he urged for an inclusive approach where all stakeholders, including political parties and civil society, should be consulted before implementing changes.

He reiterated BNP's stance that while reforms are necessary, only an elected government can truly implement policies that align with public expectations.

As Bangladesh faces growing challenges in healthcare, BNP's proposals aim to address systemic issues and improve the overall quality of medical services in the country.
