Washington, D.C., Feb 06 (V7N) — A delegation from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has met with South Carolina Governor David Beasley, a key figure in the National Prayer Breakfast organizing foundation.
The BNP delegation included Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, National Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Barrister Zaima Rahman, who represented BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
The meeting was confirmed through an official post on BNP's Facebook page on Thursday, highlighting Beasley’s influence in U.S. politics and international humanitarian efforts.
"Governor David Beasley is a former chairman of the Republican Governors Association and served as President of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP). He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2020 for his leadership in humanitarian aid efforts in crisis-stricken regions such as Syria, Yemen, and Afghanistan," the post read.
Beasley had previously visited Bangladesh during the Rohingya refugee crisis, playing a role in international aid efforts. The post also noted that he is currently one of the shortlisted candidates for the position of World Bank president under former U.S. President Donald Trump.
The BNP delegation’s meeting with Beasley is seen as a significant diplomatic engagement, though no official statement has been released regarding the discussions held.
