Dhaka, Mar 22 (V7N)- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has criticized the review of the National Consensus Commission’s recommendations, alleging that there is an unreasonable attempt to appoint unelected individuals to key state positions. He termed the move as “undesirable” and warned that it could create public concern.
Speaking at a press conference at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Saturday morning, Mirza Fakhrul claimed that the recommendations bear similarities to the statements of certain political parties, which he believes could erode public trust.
He emphasized that the interim government must maintain absolute impartiality and remain vigilant against any political agendas that could influence its policies.
Mirza Fakhrul also raised objections to the way the National Consensus Commission presented its recommendations. He argued that the commission should have strictly sought "yes/no" responses from political parties rather than framing the issues in the form of proposals.
“The commission was supposed to collect straightforward responses, not ask whether a referendum or a Constituent Assembly election was needed,” he stated.
Reaffirming BNP’s stance on political reforms, Mirza Fakhrul asserted that the priority should be improving the people's quality of life. He stressed that unnecessary debates over whether reforms or elections should come first would only waste time. He also urged the government to avoid any actions that could jeopardize the unity of opposition political forces.
The BNP Secretary General announced that the party will submit its reform proposals to the National Consensus Commission on Sunday, March 23.
