Lakshmipur, May 12 (V7N) – BNP Joint Secretary General and former Member of Parliament Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie has demanded a legal ban on the ruling Awami League, accusing it of years of misrule, corruption, and state-sponsored violence.

Annie made the remarks on Sunday morning while visiting the BNP ward representative election at Haji Para in Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila.

"Those who have committed misrule, corruption, fascism, enforced disappearances, killings, and even genocide since the country’s independence must be brought to justice," Annie said. "All anti-state activities carried out by Sheikh Hasina and the Awami League in 1996 and over the past 16 to 17 years must face legal consequences."

Calling the Awami League a “state terrorist group,” Annie said the demand of the time is to ban the party through judicial process. He claimed that the government is slowly starting to respond to the demands of the BNP and the people.

"I thank the government for showing some willingness. But the ongoing discussions, including the mass movement in Shahbagh and proposals to ban the ruling party, should have started earlier through a national dialogue involving all political parties," he added.

Annie was accompanied by BNP leader Advocate Hafizur Rahman, District Judge Court PP Ahmed Ferdous Manik, District Krishak Dal Vice President Badrul Alam Shyamal, and other local leaders and activists during his visit to the election site.
