Dhaka, May 12 (V7N) – BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas has alleged that a political drama is being orchestrated under the guise of banning the Awami League, criticizing what he sees as deliberate attempts to discredit the BNP and manipulate the political narrative.

He made the remarks during a memorial meeting marking the 10th death anniversary of BNP leader Nasiruddin Pintu, held at the National Press Club on Monday morning.

Mirza Abbas dismissed claims that the BNP intends to rehabilitate individuals allegedly persecuted over the past 17 years, saying, “Those who are making such claims are simply jealous of the BNP.”

Criticizing former President Abdul Hamid’s departure from the country with VIP treatment, Abbas questioned the government's apparent ignorance about the matter. “The government says they don’t know. But do they really not know?” he asked rhetorically.

The BNP leader further accused the administration of conspiring to marginalize BNP supporters, alleging that foreign advisors who are not even citizens are influencing national governance. “It feels like the country is under a form of colonial rule,” he said.

Addressing the issue of the proposed humanitarian corridor with Myanmar, Abbas urged that such a significant decision should be left to a freely elected government, not the current administration.

He also questioned the patriotism of the ruling government, accusing it of intentionally engaging in unethical acts that go against the national interest.
