Dhaka, May 17 (V7N) – BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has urged the interim government to present a transparent roadmap for early national elections, warning that creating confusion through depoliticization will harm the state in the long run, even if it benefits certain individuals.

He made the remarks while joining a discussion held at Hotel Lakeshore in Dhaka on Saturday evening, marking the 8th founding anniversary of the National Democratic Movement (NDM).

“The people have been kept in the dark about the nature and scope of the government’s proposed reforms,” Tarique Rahman said, raising concerns about the interim administration’s silence and lack of clarity. “If the current instability worsens further, will the government be able to manage the consequences?” he questioned.

Rahman also strongly criticized the government’s reported move to hand over management of the Humanitarian Corridor and Chittagong Port to foreign entities, saying such strategic decisions must be taken only by an elected government.

“This is not a routine administrative issue. Entrusting national assets to foreign control requires democratic legitimacy, which only an elected leadership can claim,” he asserted.

The BNP leader’s statement comes amid growing political uncertainty and calls from various quarters for a return to electoral democracy in Bangladesh.
