Dhaka, Aug 10 (V7N) – BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that a country’s stability depends on how quickly it returns to a democratic system following a revolution. He warned that attempts to impose change without popular mandate would be unsustainable.

Speaking at a seminar titled 365-day Review of the Interim Government organized by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) in Dhaka on Sunday (August 10), Amir Khasru stressed that decisions on behalf of the people must have democratic legitimacy. “If a government is formed, BNP is ready to perform from day one,” he added.

He refrained from commenting on the success or failure of the interim government, describing it as a transitional administration with the primary responsibility to restore constitutional rights.

Amir Khasru also praised the efforts of the National Consensus Commission, acknowledging that differing views and philosophies among parties make unanimous agreement difficult.
