Amanullah Aman, a prominent BNP leader, has been granted bail by the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday. Aman had been sentenced to 13 years in jail in a case related to acquiring wealth beyond known sources of income. The five-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan, issued the bail order, stipulating that Aman must obtain prior permission from the court if he intends to travel abroad. Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon represented Aman, while Advocate Khurshid Alam represented the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in the proceedings.

The case against Amanullah Aman and his wife, Sabera Aman, was filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission with Kafrul police station in March 2007. A lower court initially sentenced Aman to 13 years in prison and his wife to three years. However, the High Court acquitted them on August 16, 2010. The ACC challenged the High Court's decision in the Appellate Division, which ordered a re-hearing by the High Court. Last year, the High Court upheld the lower court's verdict, leading to Aman's appeal and subsequent bail grant.

Notably, Aman's wife, Sabera Aman, surrendered before the trial court in the same case on September 3, and her bail plea was rejected. However, on September 5, the Appellate Division granted bail to Sabera Aman in the case.
