Cox’s Bazar, Feb 12 (V7N) — BNP candidate Salahuddin Ahmed, contesting with the party’s electoral symbol ‘Paddy Sheaf’, has won the Cox’s Bazar-1 constituency in the 13th National Parliament Election.
According to unofficial results announced on Thursday (February 12), Salahuddin Ahmed secured 202,566 votes, defeating his closest rival Abdullah Al Faruk, who contested with the ‘Scale’ symbol and received 124,726 votes. The results were compiled from 177 polling centers in the constituency.
Reacting to his victory, Salahuddin Ahmed said that public confidence in the voting process has been restored.
“People were waiting for this day. Now the responsibility is much greater. The aspirations of the martyrs and democracy must be fulfilled,” he said.
He further stated that members of parliament would work toward reforms and restoring the independence of the judiciary, adding that the caretaker government system must be reinstated. Expressing optimism about his party’s prospects, he said BNP aims to secure a two-thirds majority and voiced hope that Parliament would have a strong opposition party.
