Dhaka, Feb 14 (V7N) — Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has strongly condemned the wave of violence, revenge attacks, and occupation politics across Bangladesh following the announcement of the 13th National Parliament election results.
In a statement sent to the media on Saturday (February 14) and posted on his verified Facebook page, Nahid Islam described the post-election incidents as a direct threat to democracy. He said that attacks on dissenting voices and rival political forces, fueled by certain politicians, are creating fear instead of promoting democratic coexistence.
The NCP convener highlighted a series of attacks on leaders and activists of the 11-party alliance and supporters of independent candidates across the country, resulting in injuries and, in some cases, loss of life. He emphasized that these are not isolated incidents, but attempts to assert organized political dominance.
Nahid Islam asserted that attempts to establish power through post-election terrorism and occupation politics will fail. “Those who use the people’s mandate as a shield to create public fear are standing on the wrong side of history,” he said. He stressed that political competition thrives only through fair and democratic processes, not suppression.
He urged the administration to act decisively, stop all violence immediately, arrest the perpetrators, and ensure the safety of victims. He warned that silence, delay, or bias by authorities would deepen the crisis and undermine the neutrality of the state.
Referring to the post-24 Bangladesh as fearless, Nahid Islam warned that any renewed attempt to spread terrorism or occupation would face strong resistance from students, the public, and conscious civil society through democratic means.
He concluded by calling for an end to violence, the establishment of rule of law, and building a democracy based on public trust and participation.
