Dhaka, Feb 15 (V7N) — Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has called on people to unite in resistance, alleging incidents of attacks, vandalism, arson and harassment of women in different parts of the country following the election.
Facebook Statement
In a post on his verified Facebook page on Sunday, Shafiqur Rahman greeted party members and supporters and asked about their situation in the post-election environment.
He wrote that the party had been receiving “painful news” from various areas, alleging that activists and supporters of a particular political group carried out attacks, vandalism and arson, and harassed women over voting for the symbols of multiple parties.
Call for Protest and Resistance
Expressing his resolve, the Jamaat Ameer said the party would remain steadfast on justice and truth and would not bow to any “evil force.” He urged supporters to stand beside victims and organise strong protests wherever such incidents occur.
Appeal to Stand with People
He also called on colleagues to stand firmly with ordinary citizens, describing it as a humanitarian and moral responsibility as well as a duty to the country.
The Jamaat leader concluded his post by seeking prayers for the people of Bangladesh.
No immediate response from other political parties or authorities regarding the allegations was available at the time of filing this report.
