Dhaka, Feb 22 (V7N) – Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Mujibur Rahman has alleged that an anti-people government has been formed in defiance of the public mandate without taking oath as members of the Constitutional Reform Council. He warned that if the verdict of the referendum is not implemented, the people will not accept the government and may once again choose the path of resistance.

He made the remarks on Saturday (February 21) while addressing a discussion meeting organized by Dhaka Metropolitan South Jamaat at the Diploma Engineers Institute in Kakrail, marking Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day.

Although the “Yes” vote won in the referendum, BNP Members of Parliament did not take oath as members of the Constitutional Reform Council. In contrast, 78 MPs from opposition parties, including 68 from Jamaat, have taken oath as members of both parliament and the council.

Addressing the government, Mujibur Rahman said both the ruling and opposition parties must work together to implement the people’s verdict without further bloodshed. He asserted that peace can only be established by respecting public opinion. From the British colonial era to the government of Sheikh Hasina, no administration has been able to remain in power by going against the will of the people, he claimed, adding that no future government will be able to do so either.

He further stated that Jamaat is prepared to launch a movement to implement the referendum’s verdict, while also remaining ready to cooperate fully with the government as an opposition party.

The Jamaat leader also noted that despite the existence of laws mandating the use of the Bangla language in all spheres, proper implementation remains lacking, urging the government to take necessary initiatives.

Speaking as a special guest, Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat Hamidur Rahman Azad said those who speak of consolidating democracy while ignoring the July Charter are moving toward authoritarianism. “The spirit of Ekushey does not stand for corruption, extortion, or autocracy,” he said, adding that every movement from Ekushey to July has been against dictatorship. He warned that if the government attempts to undermine the spirit of July, “another July” could emerge.

The meeting was presided over by Abdus Sabur Fakir, Nayeb-e-Ameer of Dhaka Metropolitan South Jamaat, and was addressed by central and metropolitan leaders of the party.
