The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) unveiled a 15-day schedule on Wednesday to commemorate the 43rd death anniversary of its founder and former president, Ziaur Rahman, on May 30.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir disclosed the plans during a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office. The observance will start on May 28 and conclude on June 28 with a series of events.

Ziaur Rahman, who established the BNP in 1978, was assassinated by army officers at Chittagong Circuit House on May 30, 1981.

On May 30, the party will hoist black flags and lower the party flag to half-mast at its offices, including the Nayapaltan headquarters, starting at 6 am. At 10 am, party leaders and supporters will place wreaths at Zia’s grave in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, followed by prayers (fateha) and a doa and milad mahfil seeking his eternal peace.

Additionally, a discussion meeting will be held on May 29 at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, to honor Zia's memory. On May 31, a mass prayer program will take place in front of the BNP’s Nayapaltan office.

BNP and its affiliates will organize various activities such as seminars and discussions about Zia’s contributions. The party's local units at city, district, upazila, and municipality levels will also hold events to observe the day respectfully.

Moreover, BNP’s Dhaka North and South city units will distribute food and clothes to the underprivileged in different parts of the city on May 30.
