BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir criticized the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, accusing it of facilitating the looting of national wealth. Speaking at a discussion, he claimed that the budget serves the interests of the wealthy and accused Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of creating a smokescreen over the legalization of black money.

The proposed budget includes a provision for legalizing undisclosed money with a 15% tax. Fakhrul argued that this move will only benefit the rich and exacerbate the economic challenges faced by ordinary people, especially amidst rising inflation.
