Dhaka, August 19  — The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested Arif Khan Joy, former Deputy Sports Minister and former Member of Parliament from Netrakona-2 Constituency. The arrest, confirmed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Obaidur Rahman of DMP's Media and Public Relations Department, took place on Monday night.

Arif Khan Joy, a former player for the Bangladesh National Football Team, was arrested in connection with a murder case filed at Mohammadpur police station. Joy had a distinguished career in club football, playing for Dhaka Club, Abahani, Mohammedan, and Muktijoddha Sangsad. In 2014, he was elected as a Member of Parliament from Netrakona-2 on an Awami League ticket, later serving as the Deputy Minister of Sports.

In the 12th parliamentary elections, Joy ran as an independent candidate after not receiving the Awami League's nomination but was unsuccessful in securing the seat.
