BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Returns from Singapore, Lauds Interim Government

Dhaka, Sep 08 (V7N) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has returned to Dhaka after a six-day medical treatment in Singapore. Accompanied by his wife, Rahat Ara Begum, Fakhrul touched down at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a Singapore Airlines flight at approximately 10:40 PM, according to Sayrul Kabir Khan from the BNP chairperson's media wing.

Speaking to the media at the airport, Fakhrul expressed his approval of the interim government’s efforts to address ongoing issues. He praised the administration's prompt actions and problem-solving approach.

“The interim government established after the student revolution is performing well,” Fakhrul remarked. “They are working swiftly to resolve problems and have already made significant progress.”

He called on people from all sectors to support the government in maintaining law and order and ensuring the smooth operation of the economy. Fakhrul highlighted the importance of keeping the garment sector and overall economic activities functional, urging collective effort to tackle the post-revolution challenges.

Fakhrul reaffirmed the BNP’s support for a caretaker government and a bicameral parliament, as well as reforms in the Election Commission and other institutions.

Addressing allegations of extortion involving BNP leaders, Fakhrul described them as exaggerated and lacking substance.

Fakhrul’s trip to Singapore, which began on September 1, was for follow-up health care and treatment. This marked his second visit to Singapore this year; his first trip was on March 4, where he spent 19 days for medical treatment. Following his release from prison on February 15, Fakhrul initially received medical care at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital but required further treatment abroad due to his health condition.

Fakhrul’s health issues, dating back to 2015, involve a problem with his internal carotid artery, initially detected during his imprisonment. Since his release, he has traveled annually to Singapore for continued medical care.
