Dhaka, Sep 21 (V7N) — BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed deep concern over the casualties and destruction caused by recent clashes in Khagrachari and Rangamati, urging the authorities to take stern action against those responsible for the violence.

In a statement sent to the media on Friday, Mirza Fakhrul condemned the attacks and vandalism targeting shops and homes, attributing the unrest to miscreants who are trying to destabilise the country. He emphasised the need for a firm response to these elements.

He stated, “Though the Awami fascist government has fallen in the students' movement, the allies of the defeated forces are still engaged in creating anarchy in the country. They are involved in deep conspiracy. As the conspirators are unable to accept the historic victory of the students, they are resorting to nationwide killings to destabilise the current interim government.”

Mirza Fakhrul expressed concern over the safety of the country, warning that despite the fall of the previous government, the threat posed by such groups persists. “Miscreants are desperate to destabilise the country. And for this reason, people are being attacked and seriously injured and killed in a demonic manner. The incidents of casualties by miscreants in Khagrachari and Rangamati are a brutal manifestation of that,” he added.

The BNP leader called for immediate action to suppress these violent actors, urging unity across all political lines to prevent further bloodshed. “These terrorists have to be suppressed with strong hands, there is no alternative. Everyone, regardless of party affiliation, needs to be vigilant so that the conspirators do not reap the benefits by following the attack and bloodshed,” Fakhrul said, highlighting that only through collective effort can real democracy, good governance, and public safety be ensured.

Mirza Fakhrul also demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those responsible for the attacks. He offered condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the departed souls, while wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.

The statement follows widespread concern over escalating violence in the hill districts of Khagrachari and Rangamati, where clashes have led to several deaths and injuries, and destruction of property.
