Dhaka, Oct 13 (V7N) — President Mohammad Sahabuddin has urged all citizens to rise above differences in party affiliation, opinion, religion, or caste and work together to propel the nation forward. He made this call while exchanging greetings with members of the Hindu community at Bangabhaban on Sunday morning, marking the occasion of Durga Puja.
Emphasising unity, the President stated that all religions promote human welfare. "We are all Bangladeshis, built on the same foundation. There is no space for majority or minority here; all are one," he said. He encouraged the use of religious values to advance the welfare of the country and its people.
The President expressed his hope that the non-communal spirit, harmony, and unity embedded in Bengali culture would help shape a prosperous, modern Bangladesh. He also commented on global turmoil, noting that the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and the situation in the Middle East have severely impacted Bangladesh's economy. Additionally, he expressed concern about the plight of people in flood-affected areas.
With a call for solidarity, he urged the citizens to support those in need, especially during this challenging period. "There is no alternative to tolerance, trust, and cooperation in our journey toward building a prosperous and inclusive Bangladesh," Sahabuddin added.
Recalling the nation’s history, the President remarked that Bangladesh’s independence in 1971 was achieved through a bloody liberation war involving people from all religions. He expressed his hope that citizens would continue celebrating their religious festivals in harmony and dignity.
On the occasion of Durga Puja, one of the most significant religious festivals for the Hindu community, the President extended greetings to all Hindus across the country. He also highlighted that the puja is not only a religious festival but also a social one, reflecting the rich traditions and culture of Bangladesh.
"Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony, and maintaining that harmony is essential for national progress and prosperity," he said. He urged everyone to uphold mutual amity and work towards building a progressive and peaceful society for future generations.
After delivering his message, President Sahabuddin exchanged greetings with the guests present at the Durbar Hall in Bangabhaban, making the celebration a symbol of unity and togetherness.
