Dhaka, Oct 28 (V7N)- Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus called on Saudi Arabia to increase its investment in Bangladesh, emphasizing the need for strengthened economic and energy partnerships to enhance bilateral relations. The Chief Adviser conveyed this appeal during a meeting with Saudi Ambassador Essa Youssef Essa Al Duhailan at his office in Tejgaon, Dhaka.
Professor Yunus described the Bangladesh-Saudi relationship as “unique,” distinct from ties with other countries, and encouraged the Saudi government to consider depositing funds in Bangladesh’s central bank to bolster economic stability. He also proposed a concessional supply of energy resources, expanded trade, and increased Saudi investment in skill development for Bangladeshi youth, with the goal of equipping them to fill skilled positions in Saudi Arabia.
Ambassador Al Duhailan acknowledged the positive impact of the Bangladeshi workforce in Saudi Arabia, noting that further skill enhancement would increase their earning potential and remittance contributions. He also highlighted that Saudi Arabia issues around 5,000 visas daily for Bangladeshi migrants and pilgrims, with nearly 3 million Bangladeshis currently employed in the kingdom.
Additionally, the ambassador expressed Saudi interest in investing in Bangladesh’s infrastructure, including the Matarbari Deep Sea Port and in power and renewable energy sectors, with companies like Acwa Power showing particular interest. He conveyed messages of congratulations from King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to the Chief Adviser on Saudi National Day, reaffirming Saudi Arabia's readiness to support Bangladesh’s stability.
To commemorate the occasion, Ambassador Al Duhailan presented the Chief Adviser with a copy of the Holy Quran and a replica of the falcon, Saudi Arabia’s national bird.
