Dhaka, Oct 27 (V7N)- Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus has instructed his advisers to expedite the transformation of Ganabhaban into a museum commemorating the mass uprising during July-August. The Chief Adviser issued these directives during a recent visit to Ganabhaban, formerly the residence of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, which protesters have come to regard as a symbol of oppression under her leadership.
"The museum should preserve the memory of her oppressive rule and the public's intense reaction leading to her removal," remarked Professor Yunus, observing the site. He referenced the significant uprising on August 5, when masses stormed Ganabhaban just after Hasina fled to India, leaving protest marks and graffiti on the walls.
In his vision for the museum, Professor Yunus highlighted the importance of creating a replica of the Aynaghar (Mirror House), where Hasina’s security forces reportedly detained and interrogated political dissidents. "This replica should remind visitors of the ordeals faced by those held there," he added.
Advisers Adilur Rahman Khan, Nahid Islam, and Asif Mahmud accompanied the Chief Adviser, who instructed them to seek expert guidance on the museum’s planning and design. The goal is to complete initial proposals by December this year. Adviser Nahid Islam emphasized that the museum would thoroughly document the abuses during Hasina’s rule starting from 2009, and noted consultations with international experts to learn from other revolutionary memorials worldwide.
The Chief Adviser’s special assistant, Mahfuj Alam, was also present at the site.
