Dhaka, Nov 14 (V7N) - A delegation of protesters injured in the July-August mass uprising met with six government advisers on Thursday afternoon, presenting a list of demands during a meeting at the Health Ministry’s conference room in the Secretariat. Chaired by Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum, the meeting included Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter, Posts and Telecommunications Adviser Nahid Islam, Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, Social Welfare Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid, Adviser Mahfuj Alam, and Special Assistant on Health Matters Md Sayedur Rahman.

The injured representatives outlined their seven demands, which include:

  • Equal medical treatment for injured protesters as ministers and advisers would receive.
  • Reimbursement of medical expenses borne by protesters who paid out-of-pocket.
  • Lifetime allowances and rehabilitation for martyrs' families and injured fighters, extended one generation via an honor card system.
  • Establishment of a "Martyrs’ and Injured Fighters’ Memorial Foundation," with an annual signature campaign from July 1 to August 5 in honor of the martyrs.
  • An impartial inquiry into medical negligence cases of those who died or lost limbs, with legal action against responsible doctors or institutions.
  • Swift justice against the mass-killing perpetrators affiliated with the Awami League, with a ban on these organizations.
  • Inclusion of perspectives from the families of martyrs and injured fighters from the 2024 uprising in future state reforms.

Earlier in the day, several advisers, including Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul, Farida Akhter, Asif Mahmud, Mahfuj Alam, and Md Sayedur Rahman, visited the injured protesters who had been demonstrating outside the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor), also known as Pongu Hospital.

The injured protesters agreed to return to the hospital after receiving assurances from the advisers that their demands would be reviewed.

Adviser Mahfuj Alam emphasized that discussions at the Secretariat would focus on how the government could support the injured protesters.
