Dhaka, Nov 22 (V7N) – The newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin and four election commissioners are set to take their oath of office on Sunday, November 24. This announcement was made by the Public Relations Department of the Supreme Court earlier today.
According to the notification, Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed will administer the oath at a ceremony scheduled for 1:30 PM at the Supreme Court premises.
The five-member Election Commission, appointed by the interim government, includes:
- AMM Nasir Uddin (Chief Election Commissioner)
- Anwarul Islam Sarkar, former Additional Secretary
- Abdur Rahmanel Masud, former District and Sessions Judge
- Begum Tahmida Ahmed, former Joint Secretary
- Brigadier General (Retd) Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah
This development comes two and a half months after the resignation of the Kazi Habibul Awal-led Election Commission on September 5, following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government.
The formation of the new commission is seen as a critical step toward ensuring a transparent electoral process, with the CEC AMM Nasir Uddin earlier pledging to restore voting rights and conduct fair elections.
The swearing-in marks the beginning of the commission’s work, which includes addressing electoral reforms and preparing the groundwork for upcoming elections in the country.
