Dhaka, Dec 27 (V7N) — The capital's commodity markets are witnessing mixed trends as the prices of onions and potatoes have decreased slightly, while the cost of broiler chickens and fish remains high.
A visit to various markets on Friday revealed that while chicken egg prices have dropped marginally, rice prices remain stable. Meanwhile, the price of pulses has increased, but soybean oil supply has improved, offering some relief to consumers.
With the onset of winter, the arrival of seasonal vegetables has cooled down the market slightly. However, some off-season vegetables continue to command higher prices. The following prices were observed:
Brinjal: Tk 50-60/kg
Bitter gourd: Tk 70/kg
Radish: Tk 20-30/kg
Carrot: Tk 40-50/kg
Tomato: Tk 120-130/kg
Beans: Tk 40-50/kg
Cauliflower: Tk 40/piece
Cabbage: Tk 40-50/piece
The price of green chillies has also decreased, now selling at Tk 50-80/kg retail and Tk 40-60/kg wholesale. Leafy greens, including coriander leaves (Tk 30/kg), jute leaves (Tk 10-15), and spinach (Tk 15-20), have remained affordable.
While the vegetable market shows signs of relief, the fish market continues to maintain its high price levels, with no signs of decline. Broiler chicken prices remain elevated, putting additional pressure on household budgets.
Other Essentials:
Onions: Tk 30-40/kg
Potatoes: Tk 50/kg (new), Tk 60/kg (old)
Eggs: Slight price reductio
Pulses: Prices have increased slightly
Consumers expressed mixed feelings, appreciating the seasonal price drops in vegetables but lamenting the stubbornly high costs of protein sources. Traders attributed the trends to supply chain fluctuations and seasonal demand.
