Dhaka, Jan 11 (V7N) — Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Munsur has assured the public that the country's foreign reserves remain stable, sufficient to sustain imports for four months. "There is nothing to fear. But we have to be careful," he said while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Branding Bangladesh World Conference Series, organised by the Center for NRB, at a hotel in the capital this morning.
The governor emphasised the importance of national unity among expatriates to strengthen Bangladesh's global standing. "The biggest crisis facing Bangladeshis abroad is the division in political identity," he noted. "Everyone has to lobby for Bangladesh. Otherwise, it will be impossible to stand tall politically."
Highlighting the potential of remittances, Dr. Munsur stated, "We have not been able to send remittances at the rate that Pakistan sends. The skill and cultural level of expatriates needs to be increased. Then it is possible to earn $30 to $60 billion in remittances annually."
He also addressed the issue of recovering laundered money, revealing that foreign lawyers are being hired to assist in this process. "If the money is recovered, foreign lawyers will be given a 10 percent commission. Expatriates can also earn a percentage share by helping in these efforts," he added, encouraging overseas Bangladeshis to contribute to this initiative.
The event marked a call to action for expatriates to play a more active role in promoting Bangladesh and supporting its economic and legal challenges abroad.
