Dhaka, Jan 13 (V7N)-Indian Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi has said any kind of animosity between his country and Bangladesh serves neither nation’s interest.

Holding his first press briefing after taking charge as chief of army staff, General Dwivedi on Monday stressed the strategic importance of India-Bangladesh relations, reports The Times of India.

He referenced a recent statement by the Bangladesh army chief, in which the latter had acknowledged the mutual strategic importance shared by the two nations.

Dwivedi said Bangladesh was also strategically important to India. “We are neighbours; we have to live together and understand each other, and any kind of animosity is not in each other's interest,” he added.

He said there was currently no vulnerability from either side, adding: “I was in touch with the chief of Bangladesh [Army] even when this changeover took place. In November, we had a video conference also.
