Dhaka, Jan 13 (V7N) — Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor to the interim government, has called on the Malaysian government to provide multiple-entry visas to Bangladeshi workers.

During a meeting with Malaysian High Commissioner Mohammad Shuhada Othman at the State Guest House Jamuna on Monday, Dr. Yunus highlighted the importance of facilitating Bangladeshi workers' entry into Malaysia.

The Chief Advisor specifically requested support for 18,000 Bangladeshi workers who missed the deadline set in May last year, preventing them from joining work in Malaysia.

In response, the High Commissioner mentioned that a joint technical committee comprising officials from both countries had already discussed the matter during a meeting in Kuala Lumpur on December 31. Another meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 14, to address the issue further.

Dr. Yunus also recalled his meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Dhaka last October and expressed optimism that Malaysia would expedite the visa process. He emphasised that facilitating Bangladeshi workers' access to Malaysia would help them plan for future employment opportunities in the country.

This initiative underscores the government's commitment to ensuring smoother processes for overseas employment, benefiting both workers and the national economy.
