Jan 14, (V7N) - Colombian captain and former Real Madrid star James Rodríguez has officially joined Mexico's Club León after an underwhelming spell with La Liga side Rayo Vallecano. Rodríguez, 33, signed with Rayo on a free transfer at the start of the season but managed only six league appearances before parting ways with the club, which wished him "the best of luck" in his future endeavors.

Club León announced the high-profile signing with a dramatic video featuring Rodríguez as a Roman gladiator, symbolizing his resilience and star power. In a personal message, Rodríguez expressed his excitement about this new chapter, saying he was in Mexico "with a lot of enthusiasm, with lots of excitement."

Rodríguez recently led Colombia to a runner-up finish in the 2024 Copa América, where he was named Player of the Tournament. His illustrious career includes winning the Golden Boot at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, two La Liga and two UEFA Champions League titles with Real Madrid, and two Bundesliga trophies during his loan spell at Bayern Munich.

This move to Liga MX marks a fresh start for Rodríguez, who will aim to reignite his career and bring his vast experience and creativity to Club León.
