Dhaka, Jan 22 (V7N) — Sarjis Alam, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, has announced his resignation as the General Secretary of the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation. The announcement was made via a post on his verified Facebook account at around 10:30 am on Wednesday.

In his post, Sarjis Alam explained the restructuring of the foundation's management system, stating that the position of General Secretary has been abolished. Instead, the foundation's overall operations will now be overseen by an Executive Committee, led by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdha. The Governing Body, comprising a Chief Advisor and four specialized advisors, will focus on policy-making for the foundation.

Sarjis shared his journey, mentioning that he assumed the role of General Secretary on October 21 and served until December 31. During his tenure, the foundation provided financial assistance to 628 families of martyrs and approximately 2,000 injured individuals, out of the 826 and 11,000 verified, respectively.

Reflecting on his decision, Sarjis stated, "I have served the Foundation as long as I have been able to devote my maximum time to it. When I felt that it would no longer be possible for me to devote the required time to the Foundation, I stepped down from my duties." He described his resignation as an act of honest courage, driven by his commitment to the responsibilities of the role.

The July Shaheed Smriti Foundation, which began providing financial support on October 1 and opened its office on October 15, continues its mission under the new management structure.
