Davos, Jan 22 (V7N) — Finnish President Alexander Stubbs met with Bangladesh's Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum. The leaders discussed key global and regional issues, including the Russia-Ukraine war, the inauguration of Donald Trump as US President, the growing influence of the Global South, and the Rohingya refugee crisis.

During the meeting, President Stubbs emphasised the need for a global order rooted in the rule of law, stating, “We need a world based on the rule of law.” Professor Yunus briefed the Finnish president on reforms initiated by Bangladesh's interim government, aimed at addressing systemic issues within the country.

Highlighting challenges faced under the previous administration, Professor Yunus pointed to widespread corruption in the banking sector during Sheikh Hasina's rule, claiming that approximately $17 billion had been looted.

The Finnish President extended his best wishes to the reform initiatives and expressed hope for stronger engagement from the Global South in resolving international challenges. "I wish you all the best," Stubbs said.

Professor Yunus also announced plans for an international conference focused on the Rohingya crisis, aiming to renew global attention to the plight of refugees and explore sustainable solutions.
