Dhaka, Jan 28 (V7N)— Train services across the country have come to a halt as railway running staff began a strike, leaving thousands of passengers stranded and facing severe disruptions. Efforts to resolve the impasse during a meeting with Railway Ministry officials failed to yield results.
The meeting, held at the VIP room of Dhaka Railway Station at around 1:30 PM on Tuesday, involved Railway Ministry Secretary Md. Fahimul Islam and representatives of the striking staff. Despite prolonged discussions, no agreement was reached, prompting the running staff's representative, Saidur Rahman, to leave the meeting at approximately 2:45 PM.
Speaking to reporters after exiting the meeting, Saidur Rahman stated, "We could not reach any decision with the Railway Secretary and Director General. I will discuss the matter with our central leaders. For now, we remain firm in our decision to continue the strike."
Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, special assistant to the BNP chairperson and coordinator of the Nationalist Workers' Party, also attended the meeting but did not comment on the proceedings.
The strike has caused significant disruption, with passengers across the country facing immense difficulties as trains remain non-operational. Authorities are yet to announce a resolution, and the strike continues to impact transportation and daily activities nationwide.
