Dhaka, Mar 20 (V7N) – The government has announced a 9-day holiday for its officials and employees, spanning from March 28 to April 5, in light of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr and other holidays.

This decision was made during a meeting of the Advisory Council on Thursday, March 20. The timing of the Eid holiday is based on the possible sighting of the moon, with March 31 being a potential date for the start of Eid. Based on this possible date, the Ministry of Public Administration has already designated the holiday period, which officially begins on March 29.

However, with the announcement of a holiday on April 3, government employees will now enjoy a 9-day consecutive break. The holiday period aligns with Eid-ul-Fitr, Shab-e-Qadr, and weekly holidays.

  • March 28: Weekly holiday and Shab-e-Qadr
  • March 29 - April 1: Eid-ul-Fitr holidays (subject to moon sighting)
  • April 3: Additional holiday announced
  • April 5: Government holiday

The government had previously scheduled work to resume on April 3; however, this new announcement allows for an extended break, with the next two days, April 4 and 5, being weekly holidays.

For those who wish to extend their break, the government rules allow for optional leave with prior approval from the relevant authorities. Employees can also combine earned and optional leave to extend their time off. However, casual leave between holidays is not allowed under government policy unless it is part of a continuous leave request.
