Dhaka, Apr 09 (V7N) – The total number of arrests in connection with vandalism and looting during Monday’s protests against Israeli aggression in Gaza has climbed to 72, according to a police press release issued on Wednesday (April 9) morning.
The arrests come after widespread violence erupted during the demonstrations in Sylhet, Khulna, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Comilla, and Bogra. Protesters allegedly targeted shops, including Bata showrooms and various restaurants, resulting in significant damage to commercial property.

On Tuesday, the number of arrests stood at 49, highlighting the ongoing police operations across multiple districts. So far, nine cases have been formally filed related to the incidents, with more cases expected, according to officials.
A social media statement from the Office of the Chief Advisor confirmed that investigations are progressing, and law enforcement agencies are continuing efforts to identify and arrest additional suspects using video surveillance and eyewitness accounts.
Authorities have urged the public to refrain from violence and to report any information that may assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice. The government emphasized its commitment to upholding public order while respecting the right to peaceful protest.
