DHAKA, May 19, (V7N)– The Election Commission’s national identity (NID) registration wing today assured that their data center is "completely secured," emphasizing that routine surveillance is ongoing to prevent any potential data leaks or damage.
“We have taken all required steps from our end for its security. Our data center is now completely secured,” NID registration wing’s Director General ASM Humayun Kabir told reporters at a news briefing.
He added that the routine surveillance process is in place to guard against data damage or leakage, and "currently we are not facing any challenge with the data center." He further stated that measures will continue to be implemented to ensure its security in the future.
Kabir clarified that apart from necessary temporary shutdowns for routine maintenance, the data center operates 24 hours a day. He also noted that "the data center is always checked by our own manpower to address problems and update the hub."
He mentioned that the wing has engaged a team from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) for the full-time security of the center.
Kabir explained that the wing’s project personnel, technical staff, and himself are continuously working with the BUET team to equip them with knowledge regarding the security aspects of the center.
“Remaining involved in this process, I feel we (data center) are secured,” the NID wing chief affirmed.
Kabir also stated that the center had previously identified 586 individuals with dual NIDs, which initially restricted them from accessing civic services. However, he announced that "we have now relieved them" by activating their first NID, allowing them to receive services as Bangladeshi citizens.
According to the NID server information, there are a total of 12 crore voters in the country. Concerned officials also indicated that, with the Election Commission's approval, the wing has contracts with 186 organizations for information verification purposes.
