Dhaka, Aug 17 (V7N) – Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has said he has no intention of joining active politics or contesting the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for February.

In an interview with Malaysia’s state news agency Bernama, published online on Friday, Yunus clarified that his assumption of the chief advisor’s role was solely due to the will of the people in the aftermath of the July coup.

Focus on Reforms and Stability

“The goal of the interim government is to implement the reform agenda within the stipulated timeframe. We are focused on restoring peace and rebuilding the country after a turbulent period,” Yunus told Bernama. He also hinted that the much-anticipated Consensus Commission report may be released by the end of this month.

Rohingya Crisis and Malaysia’s Role

The Chief Advisor highlighted the importance of regional cooperation in addressing the protracted Rohingya crisis. “Malaysia, as ASEAN chair, has the ability to exert influence internationally. We want the country to stand by us in dealing with the Rohingya issue,” he said.

Malaysia Visit

Dr. Yunus visited Malaysia from August 11 to 13 on a three-day official trip. During the visit, five key memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed, strengthening bilateral ties between Dhaka and Kuala Lumpur.
