Dhaka, Aug 22 (V7N) – UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay has strongly condemned the killing of Bangladeshi journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin, calling for justice and greater protection for media professionals.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Azoulay said: “I condemn the killing of journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin and call for an immediate and thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice. Journalists working on local issues must be protected from retaliatory attacks, and crimes such as attacks or murders on journalists must not go unpunished.”
UNESCO reaffirmed its commitment to defending press freedom and ensuring the safety of journalists worldwide.
Tuhin, 38, was hacked to death by assailants at Chandana Chowrasta in Gazipur city on the night of August 7. He was a staff reporter for the daily Pratidin Kagoj and hailed from Bhatipara village in Fulbaria upazila of Mymensingh.
