Dhaka, Sep 17 (V7N) – Political parties are yet to reach an agreement on the method of implementing the July National Charter, prompting the Consensus Commission to resume discussions with them.

The formal meeting will begin at 11:30 am today (Wednesday, Sept 17) at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka. This is the commission’s first formal session since its tenure was extended until October 15.

Earlier, the commission had engaged in informal consultations with political parties regarding implementation mechanisms. However, as no consensus emerged, the commission has resumed structured talks with 30 parties from September 11.

So far, through two phases of dialogue on reform proposals by six reform commissions—covering the Constitution, Electoral System, Judiciary, Anti-Corruption Commission, and Police & Public Administration (in two parts)—parties have reached consensus on 84 issues. These points are being consolidated into the July National Charter, whose final draft has already been shared with the parties.

The main sticking point remains the method of implementing the Charter. While this will not be included within the Charter itself, the Consensus Commission is expected to submit a recommendation to the government on the issue.
