Dhaka, Oct 18 (V7N) – The Bangladesh interim government has stated that immediate and decisive action will be taken if credible evidence emerges indicating sabotage or arson in recent fire incidents, including the blaze at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport’s Cargo Village.
In a statement issued Saturday evening around 8:45 p.m., the government emphasized that no criminal activity or instigation that disrupts public life or the political process will be tolerated.
The statement highlighted growing public concern over a series of recent fires across the country. Authorities assured citizens that security agencies are conducting thorough investigations into each incident and are maintaining the highest level of vigilance to safeguard lives and property.
The government further stated, “If these fires are proven to be acts of sabotage intended to create fear or division among the people, such attempts will only succeed if we allow fear to override our judgment and resolve. Bangladesh has faced many challenges in the past and will confront any threat with unity, restraint, and firm determination.”
Earlier on Saturday at approximately 1:30 p.m., a fire broke out at the Cargo Village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Prior to this, on Thursday afternoon, a fire erupted at Adams Cap and Textiles Limited, a factory in the Chittagong Export Processing Zone (EPZ), which was brought under control around 7:30 a.m. Friday after nearly 17 hours. On Tuesday, a blaze at a two-story tin-roofed chemical warehouse in Shialbari, Mirpur, claimed at least 16 lives.
The interim government’s statement reassured citizens that the authorities remain committed to investigating each incident meticulously and ensuring public safety, emphasizing the nation’s resilience in the face of challenges.
