Dhaka, Oct 29 (V7N) — The revised results of the 44th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination are expected to be released this week, following the resolution of the “repeat cadre” issue, according to sources at the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC).

Officials said the proposal sent by the PSC to amend the rules has been approved. After the Chief Adviser’s signature, the Ministry of Public Administration has issued the official gazette, and the PSC is now preparing to publish the revised results.

PSC’s Public Relations Officer, SM Motiur Rahman, confirmed that the commission will begin the process of releasing the results once it formally receives the gazette. However, he did not specify an exact date for publication.

The new amendment aims to prevent candidates from being recommended more than once for the same cadre through multiple BCS exams. The revised regulation replaces the final section of Rule 17 of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Age, Qualification, and Examination for Direct Recruitment) Rules, 2014.

The updated provision states that if a candidate has already been nominated for a particular cadre or an equivalent post, and expresses unwillingness to join the previously assigned service, the PSC reserves the right to withhold a new recommendation for that candidate. Instead, the PSC may prepare a supplementary result list, recommending other qualified candidates from the merit list to fill the remaining vacant posts. Importantly, this supplementary process will not affect the original result or previously nominated candidates.

The 44th BCS preliminary examination was held on May 27, 2022. Out of 15,708 candidates who passed the preliminary stage, 11,732 qualified in the written exam. Following the viva-voce (oral test), a total of 1,690 candidates were initially recommended for appointment on June 30, 2024.

According to PSC sources, nearly 400 candidates were found to be “repeat cadres” — individuals who had already been appointed to the same or equivalent cadres through earlier BCS examinations. This raised concerns over unfilled vacancies in certain cadres. To address the issue and ensure fair placement, the PSC amended the rules and moved forward with the publication of a corrected and final list.

The revised results are expected to resolve these administrative complexities and ensure that all available government posts are properly filled under the updated BCS recruitment framework.
