Bagerhat, Oct 28 (V7N) – A protest rally and gathering were held in Bagerhat’s Morelganj on Tuesday morning by Jamaat-e-Islami, commemorating the victims of the violent October 28 “Logi-Baitha” incident and praying for the souls of those who lost their lives. The program was organized as part of the party’s nationwide campaign against political killings and to demand justice for the victims.
The rally, jointly organized by the Upazila and Municipal units of Jamaat-e-Islami, began around 9 a.m. from the Nabbairashi bus stand in front of RM Hospital. Leaders and activists marched through the main streets of the town, chanting slogans against political violence, before holding a discussion meeting on Government Siraj Uddin Memorial College Road.
The meeting was presided over by Maulana Shahadat Hossain, Ameer of Morelganj Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami. The chief guest was Jamaat leader and nominated candidate for the Bagerhat-4 constituency (covering Morelganj, Sharankhola, and Kachua), Principal Abdul Alim.
In his speech, Principal Alim accused the previous Awami League government of carrying out “state-sponsored oppression” through extrajudicial killings, disappearances, and politically motivated trials. “On this tragic day of October 28, innocent lives were lost in the brutal ‘Logi-Baitha’ violence. We pray for the departed souls of the martyrs and vow that one day justice will be served on the soil of Bangladesh,” he said.
He further urged the public to reject authoritarian rule and to support Jamaat-e-Islami’s “Scales” symbol in the upcoming national elections. “The people of Bangladesh no longer want to live under fascist governance. We call upon all citizens to unite for justice, democracy, and change,” Alim added.
The event was attended by Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Nayebe Ameer Master Md. Moniruzzaman, Municipal Jamaat Ameer Md. Rafiqul Islam, and several local leaders and activists.
The rally concluded peacefully after participants offered prayers for the martyrs and vowed to continue their movement for justice and democratic rights across the country.
