Dhaka, Nov 19 (V7N) — Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin said that unlike the previous two referendums, which were held under existing laws, the law for the upcoming referendum has not yet been enacted. Preparations for the next referendum will begin only after the law is formally passed.

He made the remarks after the second phase of discussions with political parties at the Election Commission building in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Wednesday (November 19).

“The political reality of the country is not smooth, and it cannot be ignored. The commission is determined to organize a fair election. If people come to vote in large numbers, no one will dare create chaos,” the CEC said.

He also highlighted logistical challenges, including maintaining CCTV cameras installed for monitoring and the growing issues with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). “We do not want elections to be held secretly. Journalists’ cameras will act as CCTV, but cameras can be turned off, and maintenance remains a major concern,” he said.
