Rajshahi, July 3 (V7N) – Bangladesh officially launched "Nazrul Year 2026–2027" on Thursday with nationwide celebrations commemorating National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, MP, inaugurated the year-long observance virtually as the chief guest at a ceremony organised by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat. The launch marked the simultaneous commencement of Nazrul Year programmes in all 64 districts and 74 selected upazilas across the country.
As part of the nationwide initiative, the Prime Minister also formally inaugurated the observance in Rajshahi.
In Rajshahi, a local ceremony was held at the District Shilpakala Academy, attended by Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue) Rezaul Alam Sarkar, Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam, Rajshahi Zila Parishad Administrator Ershad Ali Esha, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Naimul Hasan, along with other senior government officials.
The event was also attended by prominent cultural personalities, members of civil society and students from various educational institutions.
The government had earlier announced Nazrul Year 2026–2027 during celebrations marking the 127th birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam at Trishal in Mymensingh on May 25. The year-long observance will continue until May 25, 2027, featuring cultural programmes and events across the country to honour the life, works and legacy of Bangladesh's National Poet.
