Dhaka, Nov 22 (V7N) — Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay arrived in Dhaka this morning on a state visit, receiving a red carpet welcome upon landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:15 am on a DrukAir flight.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina welcomed him at the airport, where the two leaders held a brief meeting at the VIP lounge. During the discussion, Prime Minister Tobgay expressed condolences over the casualties and damages caused by Friday’s earthquake and sympathized with the families of the victims.

Following the meeting, the Bhutanese Premier was escorted to the temporary salute stage, where he was accorded a 19-gun salute and a formal guard of honor.

Prime Minister Tobgay then traveled to Savar to pay homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Memorial. He placed a wreath and signed the visitor’s book.

During this state visit, three bilateral agreements and one memorandum of understanding (MoU) are expected to be signed between Bangladesh and Bhutan.

In the afternoon, Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs and Trade Advisors will meet with the Bhutanese leader. Around 3 pm, he is scheduled to hold a private meeting with Professor Muhammad Yunus at the Principal Advisor's Office in Tejgaon.

A state dinner will be hosted in his honor this evening.
